Critical Editing

For our exhibition on (post-)colonial traces in Duisburg, it was particularly important to us to have an editorial review that was critical of racism and sensitive to diversity. glokal supported us throughout the process with great professional expertise, care, and a great deal of sensitivity.

In our workshops and seminars, we often work with the organizations that book our services (museums, collections, educational institutions, and NIGO) to analyze their public outreach materials or educational concepts. This involves not only the selection of images and wording, but also the definition of the target audience (e.g., who is the material aimed at, and who does it exclude?) and the focus of the work (e.g., which levels of injustice are taken into account in the organization’s objectives, and which are not?). Through our critical editing service, we aim to support organizations in reflecting on these questions. Often, just one or two consultative phone calls are enough; sometimes, those making inquiries need further discussions or even an in-house seminar for several staff members.
