Today, March 18, would have been the birthday of our friend and colleague Doğan Akhanlı. Doğan passed away on October 31 of last year after a serious illness. His life was dedicated to the fight against injustice and to the fine arts. Through his literary work, he gave a voice to a wide variety of marginalized perspectives. He addressed the Armenian Genocide, Germany’s Nazi past, imperialism, colonialism, and the resistance against them. As a result, he had powerful enemies, whom he courageously stood up to, and even more friends who loved him—among whom we count ourselves.
We miss him!

After 5 years of struggle, countless general assemblies, actions, and events, 3 self-organized residencies, and a lot, lot of work, we’ve done it:
Investor Jørn Tækker has sold the buildings at Lausitzer Straße 10 and 11 to the City of Berlin. This means Lause is no longer a target for speculation!
Represented by the cooperative “Eine für Alle,” we’ve signed a long-term lease for the next 65 years and will soon be managing the buildings ourselves.
We’ll share all the details about the purchase with you soon.

Nevertheless, living and working space in Berlin remains a scarce resource, and we, too, are personally affected by rising costs and displacement.
