Qualification series for active people in development policy organizations or initiatives as well as for all those who work for global justice.
No campaign on global (in)justice can do without images and text. In these, racisms and other power relations are often (unconsciously) reproduced. Dealing with this reproduction is a comprehensive process. It’s not just a matter of using less discriminatory imagery and textual language. Above all, the structures in which such images and texts are created must also change. Nonetheless, discrimination-sensitive image and text selection is a first building block for this long-term change.
We therefore offer a qualification series on power- and racism-critical confrontation with public relations work on topics of global (in)justice. In three webinars, necessary skills for emancipated, decolonial as well as power-critical public relations work are taught. The goal is to provide participants with an approach to alternative possibilities of action and discrimination-sensitive practices.
Participation requires the willingness of awareness and self-reflection on a personal level as well as reflection on one’s own work/structures. We will support this process with impulses, input, know-how and instruments.
The qualification series consists of 3 consecutive webinars

Introduction: What is the critique of power, domination, and racism? How are these concepts intersectionally linked to structures such as classism and sexism? How can they be applied to public relations work in development policy or public relations work addressing global (in)justice? - Webinar: Wednesday, November 16, 2022, 2:00–7:00 p.m.
Public Relations: What does public relations that challenges racism and power structures look like? How can flyers, websites, images, and language be tailored to this approach? - Webinar: Wednesday, December 7, 2022, 2:00–7:00 p.m.
Dare to experiment! In the third session, participants can present their ideas for public relations work that is sensitive to issues of discrimination. The group will serve as a space for reflection to discuss pitfalls and obstacles. In doing so, participants will reinforce what they’ve learned and find support for putting their ideas into practice.
Target audience
The participants include actors from development policy NGOs, groups and initiatives, as well as activists working for global justice. BIPoC, activists from migrant self-organizations, and people of the diaspora are expressly invited!
Cross-cutting theme of empowerment: In our work, it is important for us to give space to those who are affected by social exclusion. The qualification series therefore also teaches skills for dealing with hurdles within one’s own organization or group. If necessary, we also divide the group to allow for more protected learning spaces. Let us know your needs for participation.
Participation is free of charge. For this reason, the offer is primarily aimed at volunteers and full-time staff of NGOs with few financial resources. Please be sure to do a fair self-assessment here. However, everyone is allowed to sign up for the waiting list, because should we not be able to allocate the places to the primary target group, other interested parties are also allowed to participate.
The workshop will be held in German spoken language.

Since there is already a very high demand, we will first quota the places and draw the remaining ones by lot. You will receive a confirmation by 27.10 at the latest whether you have received a place or are only on the waiting list. After the confirmed registration we will send the access data for participation.
