110 Years After the Armenian Genocide
: Cultures of Remembrance in a Post-Migrant Society on April 12, 2025
On the occasion of the 110th anniversary of the Armenian Genocide, this symposium explores the legacy of genocides and massive human rights violations, as well as their significance from today’s perspective.
In a society increasingly shaped by post-migrant realities, the examination of cultures of remembrance takes on particular relevance. What mechanisms of collective memory exist? How do they influence our current society and political discourses? What responsibility does Germany bear, both historically and in the current context?
The goal of the event is to establish the examination of historical crimes as an integral part of post-migrant memory policy and to contribute to an inclusive and intersectional culture of remembrance.
The two-part symposium brings together memorial initiatives, representatives of civil society organizations, scholars, activists, and cultural professionals. Together, they aim to develop new perspectives on remembrance, responsibility, and activism in the context of massive human rights violations. The focus is on the question of how these concepts can be anchored in and carried forward by today’s society.
